Book NowThe Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is a one-day training programme designed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills required to deal with emergency first aid situations in the workplace.
This course is suitable for nominated workplace first aiders looking to comply with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
During the course, delegates will learn how to recognise and respond to common workplace emergencies, including:
- assessing an incident safely
- providing CPR and using an AED
- assisting someone who is choking
- managing bleeding and shock
- treating minor injuries
Training is delivered in small groups to ensure participants receive clear instruction and practical experience. On successful completion, delegates receive a certificate confirming they have completed Emergency First Aid at Work training in line with current first aid regulations.

Will you provide food and drink?
For all day courses we provide drinks and a cold buffet at lunchtime for courses held at our premises. Please let us know ahead of time any dietary requirements so they can be catered for.
What is the Emergency First Aid at Work course in Letchworth about?

Are there any prerequisites or required experience to attend this course?
No prior experience or qualifications are needed. The course is open to anyone aged 16 or over who wants to become an appointed emergency first aider in a low-risk work environment.
What specific topics are covered under the “use of available equipment” during the course?
The course covers the essential use of first aid equipment such as bandages, dressings, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Participants will learn how to correctly utilise these tools to provide effective emergency first aid in various situations.
What is the validity of the certificate, and how do I renew it?
Your Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years. To stay compliant, you must complete a refresher course before it expires.
Is this course delivered online or only in-person?
This course is delivered in-person only at our Letchworth centre to ensure full hands-on training. For group bookings, in-house training at your workplace may also be arranged.
What is the maximum class size, and how does it support learning?
We limit class sizes to a maximum of 12 delegates. This ensures personalised instruction, plenty of time for questions, and hands-on practice for each attendee.
Are there any prerequisites or recommended prior knowledge for attending the Emergency First Aid at Work course?
There are no prerequisites or required prior knowledge for attending this course. It is designed for individuals with no previous training, making it accessible for anyone interested in learning emergency first aid skills.
How is situation assessment taught to ensure safe and prompt action?
Through guided scenarios and hands-on activities, participants learn to assess emergency situations, identify hazards, prioritise actions based on injury severity, and implement safety measures to protect themselves and others.
