Course Overview

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is a one-day training programme designed to equip employees with the knowledge and practical skills required to deal with emergency first aid situations in the workplace.

This course is suitable for nominated workplace first aiders looking to comply with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

During the course, delegates will learn how to recognise and respond to common workplace emergencies, including:

  • assessing an incident safely
  • providing CPR and using an AED
  • assisting someone who is choking
  • managing bleeding and shock
  • treating minor injuries

Training is delivered in small groups to ensure participants receive clear instruction and practical experience. On successful completion, delegates receive a certificate valid for three years, confirming they have completed Emergency First Aid at Work training in line with current first aid regulations.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK COURSE

Delivered at our centre in Letchworth Garden City or on-site in London and the surrounding counties, this Emergency First Aid at Work course supports organisations in meeting their workplace first aid responsibilities under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

Training is delivered in small groups by experienced instructors, allowing delegates to gain confidence in a supportive learning environment. Courses mostly take place at our Letchworth training centre, which offers dedicated training facilities, refreshments throughout the day and a cold buffet lunch on all-day courses. Group bookings can also be delivered at your workplace, providing a flexible training option for businesses across a range of industries.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE?

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is ideal for:

No previous first aid qualifications are required to attend the course.

The role and responsibilities of a workplace first aider
Assessing an emergency situation safely
Basic life support including CPR
Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Dealing with an unconscious casualty
Choking management
Treatment of bleeding and wounds
Recognising and managing shock
Treatment of minor injuries in the workplace
Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider, including preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions taken, and the use of available first aid equipment.
Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Administer first aid to casualty that is choking
Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
Recognise and manage shock
Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries

Do you have parking available on site?

We have a limited number of free parking available on site – do give us a call to check availability on the day. Letchworth Garden City Train Station is also a 30 minute walk away for those who are travelling longer distances.

Will you provide food and drink?

For all day courses we provide drinks and a cold buffet at lunchtime for courses held at our premises. Please let us know ahead of time any dietary requirements so they can be catered for.

What is the Emergency First Aid at Work course about?

This is a one day, in-person course at Safety for Business’s Letchworth training centre. It teaches essential skills like CPR, use of an AED, treating wounds, and managing common workplace emergencies. Certification is valid for three years and helps organisations meet HSE first aid requirements.

Are there any prerequisites or required experience to attend this course?

No prior experience or qualifications are needed. The course is open to anyone aged 18 or over who wants to become an appointed emergency first aider in a low-risk work environment.

What is the validity of the certificate, and how do I renew it?

Your Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is valid for three years. To stay compliant, you must complete a refresher course before it expires.

What is the maximum class size, and how does it support learning?

We limit class sizes to a maximum of 12 delegates. This ensures personalised instruction, plenty of time for questions, and hands-on practice for each attendee.

How will I learn to assess an emergency situation?

Through guided scenarios and hands-on activities, participants learn to assess emergency situations, identify hazards, prioritise actions based on injury severity, and implement safety measures to protect themselves and others.
