How does the CITB Levy work in terms of claiming back money for this course?

If you are paying the CITB Levy, you may be eligible to claim back money for attending any CITB course. The process involves submitting a claim to the CITB after completing the course. You will need to provide proof of attendance and payment, and the CITB will assess your claim based on their criteria. It is advisable to contact the CITB directly or visit their website for detailed information on the eligibility requirements and the step-by-step process for claiming back the course fees.

What is the CITB Health & Safety Awareness course in Letchworth?

This is a one-day introductory course, delivered by Safety for Business’s Letchworth training centre, designed for people entering or working in construction or civil engineering. It covers core Site Safety Plus topics including hazard identification, manual handling, working at height, fire prevention, PPE, and legal responsibilities. On completion, you’ll receive a CITB certificate valid for five years.

Who should attend the course, and why in Letchworth?

It’s ideal for new workers, labourers, or anyone needing a CSCS Green Labourer card. Safety for Business is a CITB-approved training organisation located in Letchworth Garden City, offering accessible, local in‑house delivery at their professional training centre.

What are the course entry requirements?

Delegates must be able to read, write and understand English. You’ll need to bring photographic ID (and parental consent if under 18). There are no formal qualifications required—just the ability to fully take part in discussions and assessments.

How is the course assessed and what score is required to pass?

Assessment includes continuous evaluation through group work and individual tasks, plus a 25‑question multiple‑choice test, with three safety‑critical questions. You must score at least 20 out of 25 (80%), including all safety‑critical answers, to pass.

What happens after I complete the course?

You’ll earn a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years. Once you have your certificate, you can take the CITB touchscreen test to apply for your CSCS Green Labourer card, which is often required to access construction sites.

Can I claim a grant or levy reimbursement for this course?

Yes—if you or your company pay into the CITB Levy, you may qualify for a grant toward course fees. Bring your Levy Number when booking or on the course day to apply.

Is online or virtual training available?

While Safety for Business delivers the course in‑person at their Letchworth centre, CITB allows virtual classroom delivery via Zoom or Teams by approved providers. That’s helpful if you can’t travel to Letchworth, but check availability and accreditation.

Are refreshments or parking included at Letchworth?

They offer free parking and provide a drinks service and light buffet for full-day courses held at their Letchworth training centre. You’re encouraged to share any dietary requirements in advance.

What can I study next after completing this course?

Upon passing, a natural next step is the CITB SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) for supervisors, or the SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) for site managers. Both build on the foundational knowledge you gain in the Health & Safety Awareness course.
