CITB SMSTS Refresher Course in Letchworth
Delivered in Letchworth Garden City, this CITB SMSTS Refresher course helps construction site managers and senior supervisors update their knowledge of current health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and changes affecting the construction and civil engineering industries. The course revisits key areas covered in the original SMSTS training while introducing new topics aligned with modern construction site safety standards and working practices.
Delegates will improve their understanding of risk management, legal responsibilities, workplace health and safety, environmental awareness, and effective site safety management. Ideal for construction professionals responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, and controlling site activities, the course supports ongoing compliance and helps maintain high standards of health and safety across construction projects. Upon successful completion, delegates receive a renewed CITB Site Safety Plus certificate valid for five years.

Do you have parking available on site?
We have a limited number of free parking available on site – do give us a call to check availability on the day. Letchworth Garden City Train Station is also a 30 minute walk away for those who are travelling longer distances.
Will you provide food and drink?
For all day courses we provide drinks and a cold buffet at lunchtime for courses held at our premises. Please let us know ahead of time any dietary requirements so they can be catered for.
Who will the course benefit?
People who currently hold a valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate. Candidates must not let their existing certificate expire before starting the refresher course. Anyone who does not attend before the certificate expires will need to take the full SMSTS course again.
What is the CITB SMSTS Refresher course?
This is a two day refresher training offered at Safety for Business’s Letchworth centre in Hertfordshire, specifically for individuals who have previously completed and passed the five‑day SMSTS course. It renews your SMSTS certificate for a further five years and brings your site management safety knowledge up to date.
What are the entry requirements?
It’s open only to delegates holding a current, valid SMSTS certificate. You also need to show valid photographic ID (passport or driver’s licence) and have competence in reading, writing, and understanding English.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout the two days, participation in group work, presentations and practical tasks, plus a final multiple-choice test.
Is the course Levy grant funded?
Yes. Eligible employers registered with CITB can claim a grant. You’ll need your company’s CITB Levy number at booking or on the course day.
